Chivalry is defined as: 'A gallant or distinguished
gentleman'. 'Marked by honor, generosity, and courtesy.' 'Protection
of the weak.' and 'Gracious courtesy and high-minded consideration,
especially towards women.' This term was used in medieval
times to describe brave knights who would go do battle, yet
treated women with dignity and respect upon their return.
This concept is disappearing fast. Just listen to the lyrics
of some of today's music. Lyrics that have gone from calling
women "baby" to calling them "bitch."
Look at the rise in domestic violence cases against both men
and women. It would help if girls were taught the same principles
and standards of decency. Things that would include how to
dress and act in public, and the proper way to treat others.
I'm not a chauvinist nor do I want to roll back time to the
middle ages. My point is simply to teach kids, while they
are in school, how to respect others. How to interact in a
respectful manner and how to treat the opposite sex with some
dignity. Be polite. Think before you open your mouth. In short,
when you treat someone in a certain way, would that same treatment
of you be acceptable?
